The Cranes took an early lead against Niger, securing a 2-0 victory with goals from Aziz Kayondo and Joseph Ochaya. However, their jubilation was short-lived due to Tanzania managing a goalless draw against Algeria.
Tanzania's goalless draw enabled them to accumulate 8 points, clinching the second spot, while Uganda finished third, with Algeria leading the group.
This marks Uganda's second consecutive absence from the AFCON final tournament, having also missed out in the 2021 edition.
The Cranes will now redirect their focus toward the World Cup qualifiers, having been placed in Group G alongside Algeria, Guinea, Mozambique, Botswana, and Somalia.
Their next matches are scheduled for November, featuring two away fixtures in the World Cup qualifiers against Guinea and Somalia between November 13th and 21st.
