Tamale Mirundi: President Museveni cannot win Bobi Wine in free and fair elections, come 2026

The political commentator conveyed this message during the weekend through a local YouTube media outlet while analyzing Robert Kyagulanyi's, also known as Bobi Wine, recent mobilization tours. Mirundi observed that Bobi Wine's tours demonstrated his enduring strength and resonance with the current generation.

Mirundi expressed concerns, stating, "I have apprehensions about Bobi Wine; I can confidently state that even President Museveni now acknowledges that Bobi Wine is more formidable than him. Based on what I witnessed during his recent tours, it's evident that Ugandans are genuinely seeking change. It would be naive to assume that the massive turnout was solely due to Bobi Wine's music. This should serve as a wake-up call for Museveni's camp to consider passing the torch to Gen. Muhoozi, as Museveni is unlikely to defeat Bobi Wine in the 2026 elections."

He went on to mention that attempts by Museveni's camp to ensnare Bobi Wine in scandals have proven ineffective. Mirundi explained, "They've used money to influence his associates like Rubongoya. Recently, they contacted his wife and provided her with UGX 400 million. She then gave the money to Rubongoya, who in turn delivered it to the principal. Bobi Wine simply told him to enjoy the money, as it ultimately came from Ugandans. This young man is exceptionally astute. Museveni is aware that Bobi Wine is a formidable and enduring adversary. Moreover, Ugandans have grown weary of Museveni's repetitive speeches, which resemble lectures. Bobi Wine consistently delivers unique speeches wherever he goes, and even if you don't support him, you must acknowledge his mastery of the political game."

Mirundi also emphasized that Bobi Wine's tours have underscored the continued strength and growth of the NUP party.

"These tours have revealed two crucial things: firstly, they've demonstrated that Bobi Wine and his supporters are not prone to violence, contrary to what the media and regime propagandists have suggested. Without police interference, they conducted their tours peacefully. It's evident that the Police have been the source of unrest at Bobi Wine's gatherings. Secondly, Bobi Wine has showcased his widespread appeal, debunking the notion that he is only influential in the central region. This has also reminded his MPs that he remains the driving force behind their political futures," Mirundi asserted.

However, Mirundi cautioned President Museveni to promptly endorse his son, Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, publicly before it's too late. He warned, "Unless Museveni endorses Gen. Muhoozi, the 2026 election will be the toughest of his political career, and he risks a significant loss because there is a substantial generational divide, with the majority of Ugandans likely to support Bobi Wine. The best hope he can offer Uganda is to bring in his son and usher in a fresh start."
