Bobi Wine's Use of Ethnic and Offensive Language Sparks Controversy

Robert Kyagulanyi's use of divisive and offensive language at a public rally in Luwero, central region, has sparked a significant social media uproar, with many Ugandans condemning his sectarianism, identity politics, and hate speech.

Ugandans turned to social media platforms, particularly X (formerly Twitter) and TikTok, to express their disapproval of Bobi Wine's remarks, accusing him of sowing the seeds of anarchy and fueling sectarian violence in Uganda.

"Although he (Kyagulanyi) attempted to convey a valid message, his choice of words was deeply disappointing, especially for someone aspiring to lead a country," commented Jeremiah Kikka on X (formerly Twitter).

Dut Biar, a South Sudanese individual, remarked, "I wholeheartedly support revolutionaries, but honestly speaking, this is hate speech."

Davis Gafayo noted, "Bobi Wine will face the consequences of his actions."

During his speech to the people of Luwero last Saturday, Kyagulanyi, also known as Bobi Wine, accused President Museveni of being responsible for the deaths of many Baganda and alleged that a small group of the ruling class had illegally seized vast tracts of land from the Baganda.

Kyagulanyi also urged the Baganda not to remain passive as their land was being taken from them. Furthermore, he claimed that President Museveni and his son, Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, whom he referred to as an 'idiot,' were plotting to assassinate him. However, he did not provide evidence to substantiate these claims.

He warned that if he were killed, the Baganda would seek retribution against anyone who had seized their land. Kyagulanyi asserted that during the NRA war, while Museveni was touring Luwero, he was secretly marking lands for later seizure.

"They (the ruling class) came here with torn shirts and torn shoes and couldn't even afford a second set of underwear," Kyagulanyi remarked, referring to the NRA war combatants during the Luwero conflict, as he received enthusiastic cheers from the crowd.
